Description: Simplifying Woodland Photography: Unlocking the Secrets to Capturing the Beauty of Nature on a photography walk
My aim is not to instruct you what to shoot, instead, I want to help you develop your own sense of visual awareness, photographic eye and your personal interpretation. I will be happy to help you with the “how to shoot” whatever it is you feel drawn to and wish to express through your creative vision using the camera to construct your intention. The photography walks around these selected woodlands are aimed to promote our senses and connection to trees/woodland/nature - as we walk, observe and take in our environment we may decide to make a photograph, or not.

Description - Woodland Photography Walk
Meriden - Millisons Wood
Meriden, Warwickshire
Millisons Wood was once part of the large Arden Forest, which covered much of the Countryside. However due to medieval sheep grazing and more recent arable farming, only small pockets of the woodland remain. It is for this reason that Millisons Wood received Local Nature Reserve Status in 2002. Entrance off Albert Road, Meriden.
Woodland Photography Walk
Woodlands, trees and nature have always been a source of inspiration, therapy and photography for me. I am always drawn to trees wherever I am photographing so I decided to make 2019 the year I spent even more time amongst trees and in the woodlands. My own woodland photography has improved immensely since 2019 as i learnt to read the woods differently and find my own connection to the many challenges of woodland photography.
I want to share and enjoy the tranquillity of our woodland environments with others so am listing twelve-monthly photo walks (one each month, on the first Tuesday of the month) around twelve different woodland habitats across Warwickshire and the West Midlands. The locations are renowned for interest and variety so offer something for every interest (abstract, macro, nature portrait, vista, cameo shot) throughout the year.
My aim is not to instruct you what to shoot, instead, I want to help you develop your own sense of visual awareness, photographic eye and your personal interpretation. I will be happy to help you with the “how to shoot” whatever it is you feel drawn to and wish to express through your creative vision using the camera to construct your intention. You will be able to take these tips away with you to use on your own woodland photography.

Forest Bathing
This is the healing way of Shinrin-yoku Forest Therapy, the medicine of simply being in the forest. Shinrin-yoku is a term that means "taking in the forest atmosphere" or "forest bathing." It was developed in Japan during the 1980s and has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine.
The woodland photography walks around these selected woodlands are aimed to promote our senses and connection to trees/woodland/nature - as we walk, observe and take in our environment we may decide to make a photograph, or not.

Participants must attend with appropriate footwear and clothing to remain dry, warm and comfortable.
Under 18 are welcome but must be accompanied by a paying adult.
Optional post-workshop image reviews and feedback on your photos are available on request via an online Zooms 1-2-1.

Summary Terms
Bad Weather
On the rare occasion that severe weather conditions prevent any photography workshops from safely or practically going ahead, other dates or a refund will be offered.
Max and Min Participants
Workshop dates are subject to the minimum number of participants (3) and maximum of (6)
In the event of insufficient bookings, alternative dates will be offered, though Alan may, at his discretion, run the workshop with less, if viable.

Fitness level Required - See Summary Description For Category.
All our landscape photography workshops are rated for fitness and are shown on the summary section.
Easy: meaning that most people should be able to deal comfortably with the short walks (5- 15 mins - less than a mile) and occasional steps or gradual gradients involved and be comfortable on their feet for the duration of the location.
Moderate: meaning that most people with average fitness should comfortably deal with the walks (15-30 mins around 1 mile) and occasional steps or gradients.
Hard: meaning that most people with average fitness should be able to deal with some longer walks (30-45mins - 1 to 2 miles) with frequent steps and steeper gradients involved.
Experience Level - Beginner to Intermediate
The workshop is suitable for any level, including beginners.
All participants receive 1-2-1 tuition and support on practical workshops to tailor tutoring to the individual’s needs and experience.
No prior knowledge of photography is required as each student will be taught individually, according to their level.
Equipment for this workshop
What to bring:
Your camera, fully charged battery and spare batteries if you have them.
Battery Charger if attending more than one day
Additional memory card(s) in case required
Remote Release Cable to take shots without touching the camera.
Any lenses are suitable - zooms, wide-angle and macro
Tripod (essential) I can loan you one - but let me know in advance if you want one. Here are my recommended tripods
A polarising filter is beneficial for removing glare and reflections but not essential.
Graduated and Neutral Density Filters - useful for increasing exposure, dynamic range and doing longer exposures
My recommended photography filters
Sensible footwear – it can sometimes be muddy, wet and sticky underfoot so walking boots or trainers with good grip are recommended and wellington boots for coastal workshops.
A large sandwich bag and an elastic band to wrap around your camera and lens if we have light rain
A kneeling mat or dustbin liner to put on the ground if you want to kneel or crouch down for ground-level shots
Water, snacks or whatever you need for the event duration
Raincoats or equivalent – we might catch a shower!

You will receive a confirmation email from me, usually within 48hrs of payment. A tree will also be planted in your name (you will receive an emailed certificate in your name) to help offset the environmental impact of this workshop.
